How to Decorate an Event Banquet Room for a Child's Birthday Party

Posted on: 11 August 2022

If you're planning a large birthday party for your child, consider holding the event in a banquet hall. These large, private venues offer plenty of space, allowing young guests to easily mix, mingle, and play games.

Banquet halls are typically known for their high, sweeping ceilings, and elegant marble or plush carpeted flooring. These halls may also offer outdoor space, such as a deck, patio, or yard so that party-goers can play games and do other activities outside as well. This will especially come in handy if you'd like to provide a bounce house, ball pit, or any other type of outdoor activity for the kids.

While banquet halls may have a basic appearance with neutral-colored walls and floors, you can easily personalize the look of the space using decorations. Speak with the event staff prior to the big day to see what types of decorations are approved or prohibited.

If you're on a tight birthday party-planning budget, buy decor pieces that you can also use in your home after the party is over. You can also rent bigger items, such as a dance floor or furniture pieces, from an event rental company rather than purchasing them.

Here are some additional tips for decorating an event banquet room for your child's birthday celebration:

1. Choose a Theme

Choosing a theme will help you narrow down your decorating ideas, as well as give the banquet hall a cohesive look. Some children's birthday party themes include zoo, castle, beach, circus, and nautical. Consider your child's favorite sports and hobbies when picking the perfect theme.

Instead of a decor theme, you can choose a color scheme instead. For instance, go with a rainbow or pink and gold scheme, and then pick your decor items accordingly. You can use your child's favorite hues or even school colors when deciding on a scheme.

2. Beautify with Balloons

An easy and affordable way to add a pop of color and visual interest to any banquet hall is with balloons. Pick the balloon colors, shapes, and designs according to the decor theme, and then use them to create a doorway arch, hang from ceilings, or float freely around the room. Young party-goers can even take them home as favors after the celebration.

Some ideas include turquoise and silver for an under-the-sea theme, or red, yellow, and blue for a circus-inspired look. You can also have balloons printed with "Happy Birthday" messages or the celebrant's name as a special touch.
