If your friends want to hit up an Asian gastropub or hit up a restaurant that serves pan-Asian cuisine, it is helpful to have an idea of what type of foods you can enjoy. Luckily, within Asian cuisine, there are usually lots of options for both vegan and vegetarian food.

#1: Sesame Noodles

If you want something tasty, start out with sesame noodles, which are seasoned with sesame oil. They usually include either a chili or peanut sauce as well. You can enjoy sesame noodles with veggies or with tofu or a combination of both.

#2: Cucumber Salad

A popular salad along with many different types of Asian cuisine is a cucumber salad. The cucumbers are tossed in a mixture of oil, soy sauce, vinegar, and other spices. It often includes chives as well. It is a simple yet tasty dish that is often served as an appetizer alongside a heartier dish.

#3: Vegetable Dumplings

Dumplings are a popular appetizer or even main meal at many Asian restaurants. Most will serve vegetable dumplings along with meat dumplings. Just check and make sure that the sauce used with the dumpling is free of animal products. As for sauce to dip your vegetable dumplings in, you can't go wrong with some sweet and sour sauce, which is a great vegetarian dipping sauce.

#4: Vegetable Spring Rolls

Another great dish that can be served as an appetizer and the main dish is vegetable spring rolls. They are typically filled with carrots, cabbage, and mushrooms and often served with ginger and garlic spices. All of that goodness is wrapped inside a spring roll wrapper and fried to create a crispy outside covering. There is usually a range of sauces you can use to dip the spring rolls into.

#5: Vegetable Fried Rice

Vegetable fried rice is made by cooking rice with eggs, so it is a great vegetarian but not vegan dish. Fried rice can be served with vegetables mixed into the rice. You can also get fried rice made without eggs; be sure to ask if that is an option. Another option is to order tofu fried rice, fried up in some yummy sauces mixed with the fried rice.

#6: Steamed Vegetables

Vegetables are at the heart of most Asian cuisine, and if you want a nice side dish, you can generally get an order of steamed vegetables. You can also get a side of white rice and some sauce if you want something simple and the other option on the menu doesn't appeal to you.

Look for an Asian gastropub like Monarch Restaurant in your area to try one of these options.
