Vegetarian Pizza Ideas

Posted on: 12 December 2019

Although many popular types of pizza feature meats such as sausage and pepperoni, you can easily make full-flavored pies using all vegetarian ingredients. Whether you're a vegetarian or are planning a party with guests who are, meatless pizzas should be on your list.

Meatless pizzas are versatile in that you can create them using everything from classic ingredients, such as onions and tomatoes, to gourmet ingredients, such as sun-dried and marinated vegetables. You'll also be able to experiment with a variety of cheeses to make creative flavor combinations.

Not only are homemade vegetarian pizzas ideal for both weekday and weekend meals, but they're also perfect for all types of special events, such as birthday parties, holiday get-togethers, bridal and baby showers, and graduation celebrations, as well. Pizza is one type of food that you know will appeal to kids and adults of all ages. To allow guests to create their favorite pies, set up a build-your-own-pizza bar featuring fresh vegetarian ingredients.

When making meat-free pizza, you can use your favorite local pizzeria as recipe inspiration. Either try to recreate them as they are in your own kitchen, or experiment with different sauce and topping combinations.

Here are some vegetarian pizza ideas to get you started:

1. Classic Vegetable

If you're trying to please a large group of people with one type of meatless pizza, or if you simply love a variety of toppings, you can't go wrong with a classic vegetable pie. Start with the traditional crust, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese, and add sauteed mushrooms, red or white onions, diced tomatoes, green peppers, and black olives.

2. Meatless Protein

For those who crave the flavor of traditional meat but don't want to use animal products, give meatless protein toppings a try. You can choose from a selection of soy-based sausage and pepperoni options. Other ideas include barbeque tempeh and herb-crusted baked tofu cubes.

Combine the meatless protein with any type of vegetarian topping you'd like, such as soy-based ham and pineapple, or soy chorizo, peppers, and cilantro.

3. Dessert

Surprise your family or partygoers with pizza for dessert. Instead of the traditional crust, use sugar cookie dough and then top with cream cheese and a selection of fresh fruit, including pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, grape, berries, and oranges.

As another idea, start with a chocolate chip cookie crust base, and then top with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. Cut it into triangles and serve them as slices.
